Hi

i have a 1310 A+ mini motor and want to know what would give me more hp.

so what im thinking is

Turbo i would use a mg metro turbo

or

toyota SC12 supercharger

so what would be better??

depends what you want

turbo = more bhp possible, more effecient, more bits of trick peices available
but more money more heat more effort

supercharger = eaasy install, good low torque cheaper

Is it going to be a daily driver or weekend fun car?

S/C = will be a contant power
Turbo = normal power then a kick

Theres also the noise.

Supercharger, constant whine

Turbo, whine when spooling up, and other noises if you have an external wastegate

I guess my wife's more like a supercharger...

that's why married men tend to install superchargers.... the don't notice the constant whine anymore..

Seriously though, I am considering installing a supercharger but one of the things that I was wondering about was the noise.

Could someone who has one, or has been in a Mini with one please let me know how much more noise there is. As my car is a daily driver, and constant whine would s#$t me after a while. That and the sleeper value would be great!

There is a certain kind of supercharger that can be run at will - I don't remember what it was, but the guy that does my suspension had one on his commie for a bit of fun.

Toyota SC12 has an electromagnetic clutch in the pulley, so the drive can be switched on and off at will (like an air con compressor). When it's on it doesn't make much noise - more of a hum than a whine - and when it's off it makes no noise at all.

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

Is that a FMI or is that the radiator?

What happens to the mixtures when you switch it off? Can you run it without the supercharger switched on with normal drivability?

The Toyota installation has an air valve which bypasses the supercharger - it's open when the supercharger drive is off, and driveability is normal.

The Toyota ECU knows whether the supercharger is on or off, so injects the appropriate amount of fuel. A suck through carby would sense the change in air flow so mixtures should be fine if it's properly calibrated.
