I read recently in an old copy of Mini Majic Magazine that it'is possible to fit a honda civic 80 model distributor.
Has anyone fitted one? could they let me know how to wire up the igniter?
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah we used to do that mod, but these days it's way easier and HEAPS less work to go find a dizzy from a Nissan Pulsar N12.
Look for numbers D4R83 or D4R85 on the dizzy body.
These take less than 20 mins work to fit, the Civic is a lot more involved.
Also the Pulsar one has the ignitor in the dizzy, much easier to hook up.
Both the Civic and Pulsar are Hitachi dizzys and similar otherwise.

See my thread `how to fit a Pulsar dizzy to yer Mini' in the how-to forum.

<edit> If you have a well modified motor with big cam, high compression, worked head etc the D4R85 works well. But if you can find a Nissan Sentra (import) its D4R82 would be even better- it has 10* advance weights, not 12* like the 85 does.. 8)

As far as I know the drive gear on the pulsar dizzy is the same as the mini? I owned an N12 and converted it to electronic dizzy. It uses the same coil as the points sytem and is very basic to set up. Too bad i didn't realise this before it went to the wreckers.

See the thread in how-to section-
Basically- less spark scatter, so more power
no points so stay in tune longer,
don't cark it in wet weather,
fatter spark- easier starting,
better economy.

They are far better made than the Lucas ever were.
