I?m looking around at seat options for a currently bare shell. Ideally I want something that I can use on track as well as road, and I do not need rear seat access. Can anyone give any leads on what you can fit two of in a mini? I was recommended the racetech 1000, however the external width of the shoulder wings is 600mm ? a mini just isn?t that wide.

ah seats...one of the few fields i have some expertise in :P

basically anything thats less than 590mm at the shoulders will fit side by side (you can go staggered if you want bigger seats but it means they will never fit right next to eachother...which isnt that bad actually since in practice the passenger seat is almost always set further back than the driver's seat)...now...in terms of your options they are many and varied and depend greatly on the size of your butt...

i would say if you are around a 32" waist you will have no problems with any of the Cobra line which are available from a mob called "revolution racegear" (they have outlets in MOST capital cities in australia)...they are all FIA approved but NOT necessarily ADR approved...which could be a bummer...the other option which i have actually decided to go with myself are the Sparco Sprints...they are 560mm at the shoulders and fit quite nicely in a mini, also are a little more comfortable for us with slightly larger waistlines (i'm a 34")...not the flashiest seats as its their bottom of the range...but they are sworn by by most of the motorsport pplz i know...seen some pics of some HORRIBLE crashes involving cars fitted with the sprints and in all cases the seats kept the driver safe...also...as an added bonus they are only $450 each :P its also FIA and ADR approved...

here are some useful links:

http://www.cobraseats.com/ (i particularly like the imola2's and suzuka's...both will fit in a mini side-by-side but tend to be a bit tight around the waist unless you get the GT version which just happens to be too wide to fit in a mini :P another drawback is that they start at $775, there is also the monaco seat which is fairly similar to the sparco sprint but with less room for your butt and i dont think it is ADR approved...i could be wrong though)

http://www.sparcousa.com/ (sprints baby YEAH!)

So what's a bloke with a 45" waist do? I'm 6'4" and 140kg - I NEED strapping in when I go to the track...

sparco and cobra both make seats for bigger bums...but they tend to be quite large at the shoulders...so you'll need to stagger them i am afraid...or get seats that dont have the shoulder wing/ear thingoes...the best ones for bigger people are the reclineable ones...but i dont think FIA/CAMS allows reclineable seats...not sure though...

they dont sell this one in aus anymore, this was the last one they had, but there is one similar to this for a similar price and just as good there.

this all depends on your size though, im a big guy so i got this seat, i tried about 5 before this one. so you really need to go and see what one fits you best.

specialty race shops are the best...there's a group up here called GP Cars that deals with Sparco and Momo stuff...and Revolution Racegear (who also have a shop in adelaide) who do Cobra stuff...

Plenty of room for them, if you aren't over 6ft tall. :D

dont bother with any of the racetech seats as they only do a really wide seat now and they are too wide for a mini as i found out the other week fititng 2 into a mini.

im also looking for other seats to fit into another mini with a full roll cage, the ones that some of the repco stores do seem to be ok but not he best price im not talking about the adjustable ones either (monza).
check on trade me you will be suprised on what you can get.
race tech seats start at $550 now.

the only thing i dislike about the sparco sprints now is that the sparco logo on the headrest is screen printed and not embroidered on :( does anyone know if you can get it embroidered? i am pretty sure the cover is not removeable so whoever does it will have to be good enuff to do it with the material still on the seat :P i dont believe your average run of the mill embroidery shop does that sorta thing...
