I'm pretty sure you don't want to be using synthetic oil. Cause the gearbox uses the same oil you need a thicker one. You want non synthetic, 20W-50... Do a quick search, theres a few topics on this. |

Synthetics are a No-No ![]() It's up to many people's preference, but IMO the best oil is Castrol's Formula R 20w50 NON SYNTHETIC..you can tell it's not cause it'll be alot cheaper ![]() As Alex said, do a search, there have been many many toppics discussing it. |

Anything with an SF/SG rating is the best. They're also the cheapest. Dont use any higher gradings, such as SL, SK for example. These types of oils are bad for your gearbox, and a minis engine and gearbox share the same oil. O, and before it gets said, Sk/Sl oils ARE NOT BETTER OILS. They are different oils, designed for new cars. The rating can be found on the bottle. Sometimes on the front, but usually on teh back in tiny writing. |

I run Valvoline `SF' 20W/50 in Barney, and change it every 1500 miles (filter at 3K). Holds pressure well hot, even after a freeway run. With Ha-ha I did the same, but following my recent main bearing problem at Wakefield Pk (engine build related, probably no fault of the oil) I'm going back to Castrol Formula R 25W/50 for track work. ![]() |

Penrite, for 20 years now. I allways use a non friction modified engine oil in the road Minis. |

yeah i usually use valvoline 20/50, minis can and should run on "primitive" oil as that was what they were designed to run on.. its easier on the wallet too.. unless you run that super good stuffs like penrite like i do in my race motor. |
