Post subject:  Underbody sealer options

Hey,
I need information on underbody sealer.
Things like how it's applied, what prep is needed,
where to put it, cost, etc, etc.

What can you tell me?
Thanks.

About $40 for 4L. Special spray gun costs about $35, but most you can brush on too.

Supercheap Auto sell the septone brand stuff:

hmmm, wouldnt touch the septone stuff personally (or anything else from supercheap) I paid the extra bit and used wurth's underbody sealant, but then again, it may not be any better than the supercheap stuff. Only time will tell............

So you haven't used the supercheap stuff yet you knock it?

This forum becomes less about tech and more about being a repository for fawking opinions every day

You can make a meaningful addition to this thread by letting us know why you went with Wurth's and how you have found it.

i have used the septone stuff on another car in the past (not a mini) and it was pretty average, friends have used it and didnt like it either. Sorry my post should have been clearer.
As far as the wurth sealant goes, i have had no trouble with it. It went on easy, didnt clog the gun and hasnt cracked anywhere yet. The septone on the other hand did all of the above. In fact the septone sealer has flaked off in some small areas of my mate's rx4, and the whole shell was acid dipped so there cant have been any contaminants.

I'll be trying the Supercheap stuff, although that's cause I'm a bit cheap too. Mind you, I did buy their hammered finish paint, and their black chassis paint and by crikey it's thin... but then it's cheap :) so I'll just put loads on ;)

When I did the 850 (now sold to Anton's family) I used 2 pack tar epoxy from www.biasboating.com.au. It's made for painting steel boats. Good crap. ~$40/L.
I brushed on 2 coats underneath, and one on the floor inside.
Anton says even with my floor repairs, it's watertight..

ive used the underbody sealer and the subframe black, the tar (sealer) stuff is alright i think, ive used it in both cars sofar and did the entire rear of the van inside with the stuff, but on hot days it tends to become a little stick....soft,

as for the subframe gloss black paint.....LOVE THE STUFF, i just completly stripped back the mini engine bay and sprayed it with that stuff, went on nice and easy (using a $25 spray gun Air comp kit from bunnings) stuff looks good, nice and glossy and dried rock solid!, will have to get gsome pictures up!

blake

for the price i say its worth it!!!
