I had a panel beater come out the other day to give me a price to get my rust removed and he said it would be way too much work and i should try to find another shell. So I decided i would have a go at it myself i am alright at welding and i'd probably use a little bog here and there to cover my inperfections but it should be fun. Has anybody ever removed their seams i want to remove my front seams, i was just thinking i would grind them off and reweld as required. The panel beater said i might have trouble with water coming in the door seals but i reckon it would be ok. How hard is it to find a new van shell? i don't reckon it would be easy Thanks for any input guys |

Anything can be found - for the right price! Clubby vans are widespread, roundies are harder to find. How bad is it? Pics PICS PICS |

i personaly would not recomend deseaming unless you are a top notch welder .... but if you are grind a inch leave a inch grind inch leave inch then weld were you have ground then grind the rest off and weld whats left be carfull thought if not done right you could be in for some hassles like the front panles coming awqay from the rear makka |

I also had a roundy van body from hell. Admittedly mine didn't have any rust in the seams. Bottom side of the floor. Inside you can see the holes where the floor meets the cross memeber: ![]() ![]() ![]() It's taken a fair bit of work but all the cancer is gone. ![]() ![]() But I totally underestimated the amount of rust that was in the car. In the beginning I could see the rust holes in places, but once you start removing bog and tar and finding more, you can feel overwhelmed. Go see my blog for more photos and details. If you enjoy welding, and have the time, I'd say do it. Otherwise, I'd say buy a less rusty clubby van and put a roundy front on it. I have been looking for a replacement shell all while doing the work. Nothing decent has came up close enough in the last year. Now I think I'm too the point where it is not that hard to finish. So yeah, I'd agree that finding and good roundy van shell is hard (up here atleast). |
