Post subject:  Baking on Paint???

Hey,
Yesterday I painted a disc hub, after making sure it was as clean as i could manage first of course.
The hub was painted with a few layers of K+H disc caliper paint, and I noticed that after heat from use is applied that it becomes a stronger bond to the part.
The component is very slightly tacky still, can I throw it in the oven at say 200 degrees for a while and see if the stronger finish comes on now, as well as finish drying it?
Or would it be a waste of time at this stage?
Thanks.

yes you can, but it will smell out the oven... Your mum/wife/girlfreind/life partner will need to be informed prior to doing it..... or you will have issues with your nether regions. Same goes for washing machines :? Women, they just don't get it.

Cheers

The oven is no problem. My dad is an electric motor rewinder, and we have an old oven out the back used for baking the varnish on.

Will it make any difference to the finish, or strength of it compared to sitting round the garage for 3 months?

im guessing if you bake it then there would be les chance of it being damaged while being stored 8)

A heat gun is gooders too. I have great results from mine and just takes a little care. Be warned though - the parts get pretty warm and just be careful as you can burn the paint off.

Hmmm oven for the back yard...
