Ok I have an engine.

Its a 1275 (by ID plate) with "mods" which apparently mean it is bored to 1340.

There is a delarato (i should learn to spell it one day) fed turbo.

QUESTIONS:

1. How do I confirm what the hell this engine is
2. Does a "turbo" f**k up a Mini engine (like is it too much for these little babies to handle)
3. Can I run a Delarato without the turbo on an engine this size
4. What other things should I be looking at?
5. Is 1340 possible from a 1275 engine. From knowledge its too big for that capacity.

Thougts, ideas, pointers are appreciated. :D

1. measure the bore and stroke, accurately..
2.no provided compression is lowered to suit and it's built properly.
3. Yes. I do.... 8)
4. What has the head had done, what is the volume of the dish in the pistons, what spec cam and rockers are in it..
5. 1340 is a misnomer, I bet it's a 1330, which is +.060". 1340 is a race class capacity limit used in UK, engines built for it (1330cc) are often called 1340s.

OK will read up more on the turbo.

:D

I like the idea of FFFAAARRRWWWHHHOOOSSSHHH... haha.

No I was told "Yeah its had work but I dont know what size it is..."

When you get told that from a "Mini Mechanic" you dont ask questions eh... they obviously know their stuff more than I do........

same reason "engine requiring rebuild" = "engine thats sat in garage for frig knows how long and has RAT crap on the pistons and water through out and is seized tight all round"

Ahhh these mini mechanics... lucky someone gave them the licence and not me...

This Turbo setup.. I'm guessing it sucks through the carbm THEN the turbo ?

If the PSSSCHHHTTT sound is what you are after then this one would give a very interesting one.... see it would be venting a mixture of fuel and air... probably in the nice 12:1 ratio to make it perfect for ignition....

So it would probably sound a little like this...

VrrrroooooommmmmmPSSSSCCCHHHHTTTT....WWWWHHHHOOOOMPPPPP........ohshitohshitohshitohshit....
weeeeoooooowwwweeeeeeeo(Hey, YOU try to do a fire engine sound in words....)oooooowwwwwwweeeeeooooooo

Make sense ?
Good luck....

You can blow thru a Dellorto- Lotus Esprit turbo did it, and that dude in Finland (Jukka?) did it too..

Yea, but how much room do you want to dedicate to it ?

not a nice option in my book....
How much horsepower did the Group-A Metros have again ?
That was a single HIF-6 from memory ....

The HP level on a Turbo is NOT going to be restricted by the carb.... once under pressure, these things can flow enough for about 300HP.....
So the fuel flow may not quite be up to that, I think the theoretical limit for a single HIF-6 would be about 240bHP - everything else would let it down first i think....

The tunability of a weber / delorto would be fantastic, but hey... its complex enough as it is !

other cars using blow through weber / delortos were the Maserati Bi-Turbo and some early Porsche Turbos.... as well as early Ferrari F1 cars !

If you can find a carb from a Maserati, it would be PERFECT for a fire-breathing 1340+ Turbo ..... they ran a 400Hp 2 Litre engine......

Nice
