Was wondering is it possible to fit them to an early mini (1965). Would you need a heavy central locking kit, say 6kg? Also a question about power steering, how much would this be & would it be worth it? |

Ok..central locking and power steering have been done..and i can see the want for central locking, but fast glass would take longer to wind up and down as it only takes 3 rotations of the wider to make the window go to either extremes. The plus of electric windows is you can wind down the passenger one or make it look cool with an alarm when you leave and the car locks itself and winds the windows up 
Powersteering..umm...why? |

I'd be really interested to find out about this stuff too (except power steering) i was looking at my door the other day and i thought it would be way too complicated especialy the central locking |

Mini has the lightest steering of any FWD car I know of. But there is/was a dude in Hong Kong who did a kit for the Japanese market. Why bother?? Buggered if I know...

Was just curious wether anyone has done power steering before. Never seen it on a mini, plus I have girly arms lol. I read somewhere that central locking can only be done on later model mini's. |

No, that's what the big "bus" steering wheels were for. Plus driving a non-power steering car doesn't rely on your arms, but does help develope a womanly chest (just ask marcello)

I believe that is the problem, but as said if you use a passenger's lock it has that locker button that can be powered. Someone here has done it, I can't rember who it was. |

On a roundnose the lock mechanism is in the handle on the drivers door, and in the latch mechanism on the passenger's door. So you need to fit a passenger side lock upside down to the driver's door. Then the locking solenoid has to work the opposite direction on the driver's door to the passenger's door (pass is up to lock, driver's is down to lock). Finally you have to find room in the door for the rods and solenoid and decide whether you want a driver's side lock button... I've got it working in a spare set of doors, but never fitted it to a car yet. |

Since i've spent so much on my new seats i'm now a little worried about security with my mini. I can open my door with the key upside down in the lock, it's that bad. I would hazzard a guess that practically anything would open it.  
If you put the LH door handle on a RH door the lock button will be reversed but what about the handle... it would be really ghey if you have to lift the handle up to open it instead of the usually downward action (clockwise movement). |

You can get new lock tumblers & keys from MiniSpares UK but I don't know (yet) if they fit these Oz locks. I'll got some here, will find out once I work out HOW the friggin mechanism comes out of the lock...

l installed central locking in my mini about 2 years ago without any problems. True you cannot use a key to manually unlock the doors. But if you use two master actuators the chances of both breaking is highly remote. You can also hot wire an emergancy power line directly to the battery and hide this switch in the boot or the engine bay. This will atleast enable you to unlock the doors in an emergency.
