Are you seriously thinking of gold plating it?

John Dawson is the man to go to.

If you dont take it somewhere else for a second opinion......you're bloody stupid.

*still shaking head* how could he keep a straight face and tell you that price??

ps...i dont mean anything by the bloody stupid remark, but i just dont see how it would take that much work to respray a car.

there's a bit of body work required...not heaps though...probably a $1000 maybe $2000...but for a 40yr old car its in pretty much mint condition...the original paint is still in a good condition...

i didnt say "yeah sure lets do it!" for $25,000...thats about what i am planning to spend on the entire project...i'd never spend it on paint and panels...no frickin way...i would legally change my name to Bloody Stupid if i did...

i actually think its more a case of he doesnt know what he's talking about...he is just the manager...and a Graphic Designer by trade...so i think he is just saying the "there's no way it'll be more than this" figure...i may still go with him if he can make sure its not going to be uber expensive...$5000 is my limit for paint n panels...so he may not be able to do it...but at $55/hr thats almost 100hrs worth of work...it shouldnt take anywhere near that for a pro to true it up and get it painted...

$25,000 is damn alot... But saying that a full re-spray inside and out... Is only worth doing if your going to take it back to bare metal and start from scratch. For $25,000 it had want to be flawless... A full re-spray would usually cost you around say $10,000 for a top finish.
The old paint and years of old bog hides alot on a 40 year old car, that why you should go for the bare metal re-spray, and if your going for a whole re-spray its hardly worth painting it the origional colour.
Yeah so that out of the way $25,000 is way too much but i think you should be looking at around the $10,000 mark...

LOL...i would like a very good job...but it doesnt need to be perfect...there is no bog that i have found in the car...all the panels match up on the inside (ie. if there's a dent on the outside you can see it on the inside...if not...there's nothing on the inside)...there is rust here and there...evidence that the front floor pans have been repaired (looks a bit dodgy..but not bad)...i just dunno what he's on about...morphias got his body work done for $3000...and he needed bits welded in at the back etc...perhaps if i strip the paint before delivery i can get a better price out of him...

granted $25,000 was his top estimate...he said it might only cost $12,000...but he doesnt know until its been done...he also said he'd ask for a cheque for $5000 when i give the shell to him...so he has some "getting started money"...that "getting started money" is the whole ****ing thing mate :P

i want it to be good...but if it really was perfect...i'd be afraid to use it...especially if it cost me 2x (or more) what i intended to spend on the body/paint work...

still got another few weekends of taking bits out of the car...so for the time being i can just research my options...
