either the rod length or piston compression height are different otherwise the pistons will hit the head. Possibly the chamber volume is possibly greater or the pistons dished to stop the compression ratio sky rocketing

On a 1098, the rods are the same as 998, but the piston pin height to top is .148" less (`coz stroke is .296" longer). U need some 1100 pistons...
Piston dish is a bit deeper too. C/R of a stock 1098 is around 8.5:1.
