I came across the problem of Failing Mini starters when I used to Race Minis at Speedway. Especially with Big Bore High compression engines Like I used to run. I have developed and modified a Bosch Planetary gear starter motor to fit the Mini. It uses the same Motor parts as a Falcon 6cyl and Commodoer V6 stater. It winds over very nicely, with ease and unlike the lucas starter they do not throw out till the engine fires up. The ones I modify fit straight on to the Mini engine with no mods required you can fit it yourself. They come with fitting instructions. Will take the average person around half an hour to do the Job of fitting it. They even fit on Round Nose Minis with oil coolers in front of starter and they are actually lighter than the original Lucas M36 starter. If any one is interested message or email me. I sell theese $250 post free.

There are Gemini & Rodeo modified starter motors around as well, I've been running one for over 12 years, only had a minor problem last year with a reco one, but thats all. These spin over twice as fats a genuin and use half of the current.
