I have been told/read that it can be done, and since I got it for free, it's cheaper than buying a used 1275. So I'm gonna do it. Plus I don't want to find a 1275 for a Mini.

-The head is a 12G1316 cast. Needs to be completly rebuilt though, but no big deal.

-The block is 12V/6712/L21855 cast. The link below was from a earlier thread, and a few of you said I have to cut something off the block and find a 1275 crank for it.

Here's a picture for reference. I'm assuming the 'end cap' that needs to be cut off is the part closest in the picture. Are there any other things. I'm going to need to know before this goes to the machine shop?

Also, I plan to put a supercharger on this. Do any of you know what the stock compression ratio was for these engines? I just need to get an idea, as I have heard they are low compression engines.

Just a suggestion, but these things are scarcer than hens teeth and are worth a small fortune to the Sprite/Midget or Morris Minor crowd.
In line 1275 blocks are much sought after in OZ. You will probably be better off financially to save the block by selling it to a Sprite/Midget/Morris Minor owner, then use the proceeds to acquire and rebuild a 1275 Mini engine. You won't have the hassles of finding a crank and rods and you won't have the expense of machining the seal retaining part off the rear main bearing cap.

Give this some consideration and help inline A series owners at the same time.

I did the conversion once, with an early 1098 Sprite motor. Fitted a Morris 1100 crank
Same deal here except it's a 1275.
You can use it all except for the crank and flywheel.

The return thread bit cast onto the rear main bearing cap is machined off flush, and the top bolted-on piece left off. But you MUST use a suitable 1275 transverse crank, not the Midget one. :wink:

1275 engines cost more then gold in the US. I'd be happy to trade the block for a real Mini block to anyone in OZ. You guys get screwed on the USD though, and shipping would be crazy $$$$. So yeah.
