Just wondering of any of you have converted a starter from another car to fit a Mini? Not sure if it has been done, but I thought I would try!

Thanks

The Geminis are called Chevette in the Americas.

Yes the Isuzu starter will work but there is a better one that takes more work to get it to fit, the Honda Civic, it's a corker apparently. I have all the info but it's on my work computer.

Chevette in US had a different engine to the Gemini here. You can use a starter from a 2000cc petrol Trooper or 1600-1800 petrol I-Mark. Maybe an Impulse as well.

(Yes, I'm a closet Isuzu fan!)

RWD Gemini fits. Needs the mounting holes elongated but interferes with your oil cooler if fitted. Give Link a call. They had them last time I was there.
Edit:  OOPS didn't notice you were in Minnesota.

No worries. Chevettes are a tough car to find here. Couldn't find anything from any of the local yards.

I was wondering if there were any asian cars that would have soemthing. I don't want to use American car parts.

Yes, as was said above!

Chevette uses a different engine entirely.

The Bellet uses a different starter which does not interchange.

Yes there is, the Opel Kadett of the same period.

But as far as I am aware, the closest thing the US got was the I-Mark which is basically a Gemini to us:

Not sure of exactly what the mechanicals were.

Post subject:  Gemini starter

The gemini starter develops a lower cranking torque but achieves this with a 20% lower current draw.

Fitting a gemini starter will give the perception of better cranking but there is little diff. I personally did the mod then did the check.
