Post subject:  Who has Recaro seats... [pics now on page 2]

Hey guys... I've been looking round for some good seats for my mini and really like this type of recaro seat (see pic). I went and took a look at this pair today but after measuring my interior am not sure if they will fit in my mini.

Has anyone successfully fitted this type of seat in a mini? The maximum width of these seats is 550mm. What is the widest seat that will fit? I need to tell the seller of these seats if i want them or not within the next couple of days. They are a good price so if they will work i would be inclined to snap them up.

Get inside your car, shut the door and measure from the door bin to the thickness of your hand away from the handbrake. It'll be tight, if you are real keen on them and need the space you could remove the door pocket I guess.
The seats appear to be widest at the front, so that's all you have to measure.

I have the exact same pair in my car, they fit no worries, I even have plenty of room between the seats for the handbrake..

You do lose a bit of adjustability going back though, mine foul on the rear door bins (the plastic adjuster on the sides) but i'm 5'11" and this doesn't bother me. I love them, they're great

I measured from door pocket to door pocket... well dad did and i think he said it's 1140mm. So, 1140 - (550 x 2) = 40mm spare. woohoo, they'll fit... but it's not really enough is it? :?

Edit: Corrected the numbers.

I will get you pics tommorow..

Mine are spaced more apart to give better access between the seats to the handbrake..

The door pocket/bin does rest up against the seat when shut at the widest point of the seat, but it isn't much and has not hurt the seat in anyway..

A couple of other things to take into account are how tall you are, and where the seatbelt bracket mounts to the car. If I was a taller person, my seat would sit on the belt retractor and the handbrake would be harder t get to.

Thanks buddy... I would very much appreciate pics. A couple of happy snaps of the distances between things would help me understand the amount of space i will have spare.
Also, could you show me how you mounted them too if you can. That will be the next headfu?k... installing them safely.

I'm 178cm tall and i prefer to sit a fraction closer to the wheel than most people my height. Hopefully that will be ok.

Is your steering column raked back?

No worries, i'll see what I can do..

Your about the same height as me and I like to sit closer than most too ;)

I would not want to lower the steering column with these though..

Just a query - do these have an adjustable base?

I'm not sure what you mean by adjustable base.. The seat will slide forward and back, but the base doesn't tilt, the rear is adjustable for angle and you can even flip them forward from both sides of the seat..bonus!

The Adjuster Knob just fouls on the rear door bin, but you could take out one screw and remove the knob and you may get a little more room to move it back.. I didn't bother.

Sorry..forgot to rotate it..

I havn't got any of the base, but later this week i may pull them out to give you a look at the bracket..

Oh and you don't want to drive like a fully sick wog/ricer with these..ie..with the seat back tilted back so you can see out the rear window ;) ..because it fouls on the rear bin, i have the seat back upright, like this it gives me more room at front..but it's how I would have them anyway..just sucks if you want to recline them and sleep ;)

Sorry I wasn't to clear.
Just sliding back/forward is all that's required for ADR complience.
Sleeping in Moke is not really practical... :D

Thanks.

Thanks for that Mini Mad... When i asked for pics of your seat mounts i wasn't expecting you to remove the seats for me. I thought maybe a picture from the rear footwell showing how the rear of the Recaros are attached to the floor would be all i need to gain an understanding of how you did it.

Those seats look good in the mini... is a Clubman interior the same dimensions as a roundie?

Also, how much do you reckon a pair of these Recaros is worth? I beat the guy down to $800 and he doesn't sound like he'll go any lower. They are in pretty damn good condition (I can't see and visable damage or wear marks) and the guy selling them is only 15min from my house. $800 is just such a lot of money for two seats. :?
