If you can smell acid it might be overcharging, or the battery may have internal problems. I topped up my son's VX Monaro's battery a month or so back, because it was very low. He drove it straight home to Dural, when he got there he could smell acid. The battery had spat acid all over the nice new lime green paint, the headers, the ABS module, yada yada.. and the battery was f**ked too, according to Mr NRMA Battery. And of course, it was 1 month out of its warranty.. ![]() Moral of story- check it... but if it's near empty leave car overnight after topping up... ![]() |

I guess the Bat could be srewed as the Alternator was dead and I recharged the Bat a number of times before replacing the Alternator. It funny thier is also a little bit of water under the covers and ontop of the screws. I guess it could be boiling ![]() DO you think the Lucas AC17 could be charging to much |

Put a V meter across the battery terminals and rev the motor to 2000 or more. Should be around 14.3- 14.5V. If it's going to like 16V or so, the V regulator inside it is ****.. |

Even `maintenance free' ones use some water, unless they are a gel battery like Optima.. Just harder to check- you usually need to pry the lids off. |

LOL, are those Optima ones the ones that have the spiral coils in em, that will supposedly work even after being shot?? Sounds great, but then again, I dont intend moving to Cabramatta in any hurry, and a 650 buck price tag seemed a bit expensive to me. |

dam, i might have to invest in a Optima battery... especially down here in Cabra ive just got a "maintenance free" one. you can hear the water inside it. its got a colour check in it but i dont check it ill let you all know how it goes... i havent have any problems with it at all, i dont check it as well. |
