Can anyone tell me the oil recipe for the dashpot? I read somewhere to use a mixture of sewing machine and engine oil, if so, is sewng machine oil parafin oil? How do I tell what model SU carb I have when buying a kit? My stock 1100 is still revving rough and has no power after replacing all the usual service bits. |

I always used Singer Sewing machine oil, you can buy it in Woolies/Coles. Comes in handy little bottle with pointy end so you can accurately squirt it in the pot. No mess ![]() |

In the past I've use Singer oil, 3 in 1 oil, ATF, 20W/50, sae30, & 2 stroke oil... ![]() Currently Barney is running hard (twin HS4s) with NOTHING in them.. ![]() Depends what tune your motor is in, what needles, how hot it is, etc. Try 'em all and use what works. ![]() |

Yeh try not to get it everywhere.. I filled it up too much and lifted the needles, spurting oil all over the place.. when I fired up the engine smoke started coming out, the oil spilt on the exhaust manifold was burning :S didn't smell nice |

My van was running bad as, I mean REAL BAD! Well after playing with things on the ignition, replacing almost everything, I decided to pull the carbie down and clean it. I touched no settings at all, just cleaned it. Well put it back together, topped it up with normal engine oil (not exactally sure what was in the oil can, prolly just the cheapest 20w50) and it runs like new again! I wasn't sure what oil was in the thing before, but I can tell you that after cleaning the carb and using engine oil in the dashpot, it fixed ALL problems it had! |

most genuine problems with SU carbs,,,(& when i say "Genuine" i mean when there`s absolutely no other problem with the car "BUT" the carb),,,then normally the problem is simply a dirty sticky old piston & bell,,,,easy fix as Poee said,,,a good clean & new oil & away she goes ![]() easy-peasy but then, there`s allways plenty of other problems with the tune on the average Joe Blow`s minis hey? so i`ll just shut up now ![]() |

I had 20W/50 oil in Barney's twin Hs4s up until last Friday. I too thought he had a lean stumble just above idle.. however, when we hooked up GR's meter and went for a drive, it turned out he was going rich! Right down to 9 or 10 when I opened the throttle..... He's good now when hot, around 13 at full throttle- but could be just a little richer during initial acceleration during warmup. I'll tip some ATF or 2 stroke oil in next week for a test. ![]() |

With 1 carb probably yes. With twins I reckon it's a bit thick.... ![]() |

I'm running ATF at the moment - seams fine to me - but I'm interesting in hearing how your tests go Doc |
