payed $4000 for mini and started full bare metal ground up rebuild, fitting out with rover interior -seats, wood grain dash, a/c disc brakes, new rims, new brake and fuel line, reco gearbox, new clutch, new rubbers, new carpets, twin tanks new hilos and shock, new exhaust, all paint and work done by me and my hubby and only fixed a few oil leaks on motor this time around. still not finshed painting yet and today have easly spent $6000 and have decide to stop counting as my buget for the mini was $10000

but my hubby doesn't mind as he use to have a swb partol and over 5 years he spent $54000 doning it up we sold it last year after months of trying for $4000 people just wouldn't come and look at it as we are in orange. he sold it to a single guy with 2 kid who was driving a beaten old holden he just felt sorry for him and gave it to him for what he payed for it when he brought it on the condition that if he wants to sell we must get first option.

I was listening from the start Matt - 4th reply to the original, I said $13K sounded good... ;) actually, since your first reply was after mine, I reckon you're copying me :P

and my minis, probably a bit over $30K all told, so not that much, current S maybe $13K, but the engine in it has been in 4 cars now, so that's not included, and I got paid back for one of them from the insurance company...

getting slightly off topic, the pics of the car contain what looks like a can of V. is this just a cover or a product. I've seen a red bull one in another mini mag and thought it looked pretty nifty.

Just a cover...you buy a can of V and drink it...then cut the can up and wrap it around the coil

The one on the catch can is the sticker off a bottle of V :P

I like the red bull idea. The colours go with my car, and it has a red bull (funnily enough) just like my car. However if i find a really bizzare drink out there......

interesting topic this one.

Matt, I always read your posts as they are informative and usually bloody funny with crazy over punctuation :). I also reccommend watching your vid when you first run the twinky head. That is pure funniness. Your setup cracked me up.

Earlier in the people said that high rpms is what kills a motor. What is the rev range you should stick in to safely drive your car and not damage the motor. I try to stick at under 3.5 bu some times when i am being a hoon may "accidentally" go over that :) Doing 100kms my van does about 3200. What diff would get that down.

Dale, sorry if i am diverting your post but have just read the whole thing and wanted to ask.
Good luck with the motor. If you are happy then fark it. It is only money. That stuff comes and it goes, usually more of the latter

DAVID

most motors will be happy up to 5500-6000, and depending on the build will easily go over that - Dr Mini does 8500... they usually don't make any power until 3500-4000, I don't use a tacho, so I've got no idea, I change gear when I feel the torque flatten

you must have a bloody tall diff to be doing 3200 at 100k's, a 3.44 diff will be doing 3800 at 100k's, so yours must be a 3.1 or something out of a Rover - does it die on hills?

dale,
That is cheaper but when you say without parts what do you mean. Where you getting more than 4.5k in parts when paying 13K?

Skggsn. I maybe mistaken it is more like 3.4 I will have to have a look. She goes up hills like some sort of machine that climbs hills. I usually am overtaking up hills in 4th. I think some sort of seals are on the way out as if i floor it she gets a smokes for a second or two at about 4.5k rpm if my foot is on the floor, just a touch. this is why i dont really rev her that hard. trying to make it last a bit longer. 1275 a+ overbore 40 thou with weber.

its still a good idea to get a centre oil pickup, or you'll prolly need to get one later,

have you gotten quotes from other places to compare yet?
