ok, well i'm a little green when it comes to mini parts and go fast bits.. whats a hs4?

i have a stock 1 1/4" SU, so i'm guessing the dellorto has to be better

and if she hits redline well that to me would say she gets better top end power with the dellorto... which is better power.. top end or not

i'm going ahead with the conversion anyway and i'll let you know how it goes

Your 1 1/4" SU is known as an HS2. An 1 1/2" SU is an HS4. You also get other varieties, like H2 and H4 (older type) and HIF4 and HIF6 (newer type). The number refers to the number of 1/8" over an inch the butterfly is - so HS2 is 2/8 over an inch = 1 1/4". HIF4s and HIF6s are also known as HIF38s and HIF44s respectively - this reflects the change to the metric system :)

You are right re top end, my Dell'orto really unlocked the top end for me, even though it isn't properly tuned. But when I was playing with an HS4 carb, it also gave instant gains in top end, but it wouldn't run at all below 3000rpm! I got sick of the HS4, and had spent a lot rebuilding it, and then as with Chong, a Dell'orto came up at a bargain price....

Well Kev the rose joints on the Lynx linkage are polyurethane - I had the director of Lynx was demonstrating their strenght to me by jumping on one of the internal bearings.

The quality of the whole kit is crap - my cousin has toys that are better engineered and are sturdier than that kit.

Chong arent you worried about that rubber fuel line touching the extractors?

<edit> whatever those rose joints are, they bust easy when they get old. I would have said polystyrene... it's crap anyway.

The bloody fuel pump is too close- about 1" from the extractors- I don't like it either. Chong, FFS go buy a leccy pump and stick it down the back!

Yeah I'd be fixing that before driving the car anywhere! I had my fuel line wear through once on the subframe, luckily it only started to leak when I was working on it in the garage, so I could fix it then and there. No good bursting a fuel line when your driving, that tends to end badly.

A mate of a mate has an 70's 2 door alfa coupe. I forget the model... I think it started with S. He said I can have the carbie off it. What are the chances of it being a Del'?

60/40. Most of the Alfettas had twin Dellorto 40mm carbs, earlier 105 series cars mostly had twin Weber 40mm.

2.0L Alfetta had 33mm chokes in the Dellortos. OK for a 1098, a little small for a 1275, IMO. But the Alfa's jets and emulsion tubes won't work on a Mini. Budget $100 for bits..
