I put my Tacho in last weekend, my engine sounds like its gunna explode at 4000 RPM, let alone 6, and it struggle to get above 4 1/2.. is this because i'm running a standard piss small SU?

engine is in good nick and serviced, no smokeys and doesnt use oil.. no compression loss, so valves are okay aswell

oh.. and its a stocky 1100 (including stock carb), i'm thinking my advance is pretty crap, i dont see how the car should be on 6 degrees advance at idle.. was thinking of windng it up to 10 degrees.. i have a pulsar dizzy siting in the shed.. will this help it get to redline easier? i'm just concerned at the scream the lil blighter make on high revs (no sound ending or carpet if this helps anyone imagine the noise).. i must have been shifting at like 2 1/2 before i put the tacho in..

by the way. i have tested the acuracy of my tach against 2 other sources to make sure its reading accurate, because i didnt believe it at first

i still have a couple of dellorto 45DHLAs in the shed off an old escort 2L.. is it worth the effort and $$ putting this in

cheers
Andrew

hello.,
when my 1100 was stock (1 1/4,stock exhaust) it woundnt see the other side of 4500,struggled to reach 4250
now with simple bolt on 1 1/2 carbie and exhaust,it goes to 5500RPM nice and goes to valve bounce at a touch over 5500,so the shift light is set at 5300,enuff time to shift B4 it hits 5500 :D
my Autometer monster tacho wires up to my carbie mini no worries, goto the autometer site and you can print out the instructions on how to wire it in :D
a fue other tacho's iv tryed were VERY bouncy and on smooth,my autometer is smooth, clear, and look nicer than most other arfter market tacho's :D

That's about the best spot. I have the same Fiat tacho as kev's one. Sits nicely in front of steering wheel on the dash tray. Needle is nice and dampenned so it works rather well... The most accurate gauge in the whole car actually

Mine was here before I started stripping the car.

Its an MGB tacho next to a PRICOL boost gauge. With my lowered steering column, the gauge is easily visible thru the steering wheel. Am going to redesign that panel when the interior goes back in.

ive got an 80's/early 90's led tacho that at the moment im in the process of changing the leds to blue and pink (for the redline bit) but as my soldering leaves a lot to be desired im waiting for the gun solderer at my work to get back from holidays to finish it up for me,. Once its done, there will be a line of i think its 8 or 9 blue leds then 3 pink ones, i dont really care what the values of them are in rpm terms are, but it'll look cool!!! haha i'll post a pic once its done!!!
