the problem is either in the coil itself,,,the pigtail wire from the coil to the points , or a problem with the points &/or condesor if what you`re saying is actually what`s happening,,,nothing to do with dist cap or rotor or coil lead or diddly squat

check the points are not dirty (by cleaning them) & make sure nothing else in the points dept is fouling & shorting them out,,,maybe the little plastic or fibre washer under the points pivot post is cut through or not there???

still havent got the spark discovered yet but i know im definately getting power to the dizzy, ive cleaned and re-checked my points installation but still no luck, i'm thinking my timing may still be out and i've got to get a new cap and leads now anyway after one of the lead boots broke in my hand yesterday.

i'll give you a call monday to organise a time to come get some doors off ya.

thanks pete

The points are sparking when the motor is cranked or when you open them? If the timing has not been changed then why would it need changing now? Hibernation won't change it.

the hibernation wasnt good to this lil one, bits were pulled off and put back and i'm havin a guess and saying left in the weather as well. I'm in the process of trying to get it complete and running before I disassemble it for a complete restoration. When i checked the dizzy clamp bolt it was loose so it's a fair guess that the timing has been messed with previously.

wahoo............my 850 is back from the dead!!!!!!

after an 8 year slumber the lil one has finally kicked over on its own and woken up :D

im so stoked i can't beleive it........it took a little fiddling and just to eliminate things i replaced all the ignition components and tonight much to my neighbours disgust she finally came to life!!!

she's still a little groggy but at least i know she's capable of doing it and now i can get things underway on the full restoration.

heres a pic of the engine bay..........you can see why she was reluctant to fire up!!

Good work, what was it that made her go?

Your engine bay looks a bit like the deluxe I am going to be doing up :D but it just goes to show you can't judge a book by it's cover cause when we got it going it flew :D I was so happy :D :D :D
Oh stale fuel was the problem with mine it had been sitting for ages

it fired up with a combination of new ignition components (plugs, points, cap, leads, coil, condensor etc) refitting the carby and intake as it was sittin there, resetting the timing as the dizzy had been removed and not refitted correctly and a fresh load of fuel and a few capfulls down her throat :P

she's still not driveable or its not even really running but at least shes starting and kicking over. im very chuffed to tell you the truth :D
