Wouldn't it be better to draw cool air from the outside of the car towards the radiator, as opposed to sucking the warmer air from around the engine through it?

EDIT: Though then I suppose you aren't getting rid of the heat as such...

Front of car is a high pressure area, wheel arch is low pressure. To blow air from wheelarch into the engine bay you would be pushing sh!t uphill, unless stationary..
Anyhow, while moving the airflow goes in the front, out the side thru rad, and down the back of the motor too, so it's not as hot as you think.

OOOhhhh right I getcha now. Yeah. Shoulda bolded 'stationary' too... ;) :D

That all depends on the question; "even with a side mounted radiator, does the fan do much whilst the car is in motion?"

If yes, then it should blow outwards .

If no, then it should suck inwards.

Such an answer, though, I do not have...

well the principle i worked on when putting the fan in is that whilst driving cool air comes in from the front and gets pushed through the radiator for heat transfer and comes out the other side into the wheel arch to get rid of it.
thus the fan off the car is set to blow the air through the radiator.
whilst stationary though no cold air comes through the front of course so the car fan is the only thing pushing air through but it can only do so much. so by adding a fan on the other side sucking the hot air out of the radiator it is complementing the fan off the car.
by sucking the air out it allows for more heat transfer onto the air particles coming through from the other side of the engine which keeps the car cooler! :D

couldn't think of any other simpler way of putting it!

and its worked so i guess im right!

If you are fitting a thermo fan it should maintain the airflow direction thru the rad and into the wheelarch.
Most thermo fans from other cars are set up this way so will fit in the guard with a minimum of fuss. I've got one, just gotta ensure there's room.. already have 2 air horns and a washer bottle under there..

You have a good source of cool air coming in through the grill, it hits the block and goes up and over, right and left....on the right side, you help to direct the cool air through the radiator by a fan that blows thru the radiator and exits from under the guard ....
