Not so grasshopper...back in your box!

There's no such established practise as lightening an engine, but there is with flywheels. Check out his comment " I suppose one could have been lightened previously" - he's not talking engines I'd wager. 8)

Oh, sorry O Drunken Master

What mods can I do the the flywheel? does it involve grinding bits off it? I have a one piece flywheel (??) does that mean anything?

One question about pushrods. I read in Vizard last night about pushrods. All i have is a bunch of old and tired looking 1275 rods from a garage sale. Is it worth my while to buy brand new rods?

Keep reading that Visard.
There's more in there than you'll ever need to know about lightening flywheels.
Had it done for one of mine, but only worth it if you lighten all the rest of the rotating mass... and remember that a lightened "race" engine will either have a very high idle or will embaress you by stalling in the car park!

`Motion lotion'... for the camshaft & followers during startup...
I didn't have any this time, and nor did my supplier, so I resorted to engine builder's secret assembly lube... Castrol LMM molygrease. Good stuff- I used to assemble Formula Vees etc with it.

Buy it here. Not much cheaper in UK, if at all.

I just got quoted $1500 minimum for engine rebuild, + $1000 minimum for gearbox rebuild.

Is it possible for me to buy ALL parts and do it myself for less realistically ?

it cost me $1499.30 my rebuild in march last year. i have the cost of everthing that they have done itemised and i will post it all if u want to see it just ask. because i didn't want to type it all out if noone wanted to see it. i got the engine disasemble and i built it myself. i i sugest rebuild the box because i have not had any problem with the engine but i am in the middle of my forth gearbox repair and i am goin all out for the rebuild this time.

Are you rebuilding the gearbox? If you want longevity and reliability you must be doing the box? Have you had a quote yet for the box and who's doing the engine/box work for you? Where are you getting your spec information vizard and?

Are you planning on $2500 for a new motor every 2-3 years sounds like you want power and top end speed not reliability?

Lucky you for having the money to burn.

Steve
