the A series is a very very decent engine.... just keep in mind what the mini was designed for, and what it became and still is today - minis wouldn't be minis without the A series motor being part of it from the start

if you want a twin cam escort, save up and buy one.... if you can find one out of the very few that were produced, for a specific purpose - a whole lot different to an A series powered mini

Bloody oath.
Extracting "big" power from an A-series is a fair bit more fun than just plonking in a standard Jap turbo motor in it that makes probably more power standard than a hot big-bore A series does...
But it's no longer a Mini.
Doesn't sound like a Mini.
Feel like a Mini.
Etc.

:P

im also building a fast road a series, despite the massive superiority of more modern and technically advanced engine conversions.

bmc should have put a decent alloy twin cam head on the a-series AND a decent 5 speed box. the mini would have kept winning, i mean cmon how hard can it have been? :P

KAD (kent auto development) did it. Minisport seel em, not cheap at all tho!!!! Waste of money IMO but hey power cost. So I can't imagine a DOHC mini would have been too hard. And why not a standard turbo mini. Not the ERA but a real factory turbo min. It would have beenb easy if the designed the engine bay a bit more to fit more behind the motor, since the didn't it's our duty as mini enthusiasts to do what we can to get more, and more power! :P My next upgrade, which is a definite. Is supercharger but first better wheels and tryes to get better grip with that newfound horse power. Then..who knows? Better cam perhaps?

So, how many Ford 1600 twin cams were built, not many really. Most Kent engines made were pushrod... but at least they had 8 ports.

Early pushrod Ford 105E (997? cc) was WAY oversquare, it's true, but the thing didn't exactly have lots of power.
To get cc, guess what- Ford STROKED it...

I used to work on Formula Ford race motors in the early 70s(the 1600 crossflow with single 2bbl Weber).
Not a bad motor but it was real hard to get the advertised 96? BHP with the shoddy cams they had. We would go through heaps, looking for the elusive one that was ground to spec.

Just add another point....

My dad had a range rover which it's engine blew up ( rover 3.9 V8 ). When he got a replacement he got a good package.

Stroked to 4.2, stage three heads (over size valves, porting etc.), motech computer. It was getting 220kw's at the engine (it was engine dynoed out of the car) Which jsut goes to show stroking is great. Sure it didn't rev high but dam did it go! For a 2 and a half tons lump of steel it would beat my mini up a hill...with it's huge torque!

With all that extra fuel burnt you'd hope so  . But a huge 4WD?? 2.5 to 3 ton I think?? It was a 4 door rangie. And it was AUTO (stupid I know but it was an engine and gearbox package, and so my mum could drive it as she hates manuals!) But it couldn't handle, so mini is still king. BTW i think you missed the point, the point is as follows.... Stroking = Hell
