"well allow me to retort!" ah, a great line from a great movie. I've had some bad experiences with bp, my clubman ran like shite 3 or 4 times after filling up with bp

Which BP station? When? What fuel did you buy?

Did you complain to the site or BP so the problem could be investigated?

I once thought I had copped a bad tank of fuel and complained to the site and Lubes and Fuels dept at work. The car ran worse when I filled up again elsewhere! Then I realised the problem was not the fuel - I had a dodgy condenser and badly pitted points.

Not saying this is what happened in your case though.

can't remember which servo's, I know one was on Evans rd in salisbury. No, it was definitely a fuel problem, car ran magnificently on anything else. After filling with bp, the car ran bad for weeks, the last time it happened, I twigged to what the problem was (up to that point I hadn't realised the problem was fuel related) and flushed the tank and filled with something else and the problem disappeared forever. At the time the clubman was running on leaded (before the unleaded conversion). It would fart and stutter, wouldn't idle, would die when waiting at lights etc. I can't be bothered complaining about things like that, if I buy bad petrol from one servo, as far as I am concerned all petrol of that brand is to be avoided, like if I buy a bad burger from macca's, instead of complaining to that specific macca's, I would just avoid all macca's. I believe that if you are involved in a franchise (like BP, Macca's, Jim's mowing etc) the product or service you supply reflects on all members of that franchise, and you have a responsibilty to uphold the standard of service or product. If I was unlucky enough to encounter a couple of servo operators that were selling dodgy (read doctored) fuel, then their bad practise has tainted my opinion of all operators of that franchise. I realise if I had a legitimate complaint about individual operators and not the franchise as a whole, I should have maybe followed it up so that whoever polices these things could take action, but like I said, it was over a period of time, and I'm not 100% sure of dates and outlets, it just seemed too hard, I'll just stay away from bp

Fair enough. Something does sound dodgy there!

Some franchisees in the old days would try anything! The stories I could tell from my Site Systems days, but then I'd probably get sued.

I know an fuel importer in liverpool, imports stuff from the states from serious serious fuel (100+ octane) used in Yanke drag cars, right up to top fueler fuel....... WOuldn't like to know how much though, although having my own drum of fuel at home does appeal to me

but the 5k per cylinder fine kinda sucks, i thought maybe i could get away with it until i drove and stood around ivans 970 race car which runs on avgas, smells real different..... any clued in copper would screw you

Man.. some of the sh!te pump fuel I've had in the last few years (but NOT in the Mini) smelled more like paint thinners/degreaser/solvent than it did of petrol.
I reckon there's so much solvents in fuel now it evaporates much quicker. I think it percolates thru the plastic tank on my EA Ford.. it goes down even if I don't drive it!

In Adelaide, all the BP and Mobil servos have been given face-lifts...... where as all the Shell servos are old and dirty. I think this is what makes me drive right by the shell servos.

Id say majority of the time i go to Mobil for their "8000"(?) premium unleaded... but have never noticed a difference....

The best times were back when i would get AVGAS straight from the servo for $1 a litre.... when normal fuel was about 75c..... yes we had servos with AVGAS

In the Toyota all i use is Mobil 8000 or Ultimate....found Optimax to be shite. Mates have complained of it clugging up injectors too because of the additives in the fuel.

Since there is a Shell Optimax glut here at the moment I tried the Mobil 8000 and noticed the plugs are a lot cleaner now. BP can have their fuel(after working at Moomba in SA I am suprised they have any business...sorry bnicho) and I think the mobil stuff has my vote for now

No offence taken - everyone is entitled to their opinion. 8)

the old leaded fuel was soooo much better then todays lrp,

my brother used to have an XD falcon 380ci with a whopping 160 ltr drop tank!!!,

anyway he had an accident in it, and left it in the drive way...with abot 70-80 litre of fuel left in it, (original leaded petrol) anyway about 15 months ago i was running very low, and had no change to scrape out of the pocket,
so i sifoned some out, the mini ran so much smother, felt smooth to drive aswell, and not to say, but it smelt alot nicer aswell!!!,

:D :D :D

Well my local Shell had Optimax on Monday, $1.25 a litre. It's just getting rediculous! And that's only when they stock it :( I haven't been driving the Mini much the last week, so haven't had a chance to test out other fuels. I'm thinking for the moment I might just run unleaded - it doesn't drive quite as well, but isn't too bad (doesn't ping). Once I get my head rebuilt with higher CR, which will be sometime in the middle of summer, I'll have to be back to high octane fuel again.

Bnicho I hope your right about more BP stations getting Ultimate - I would like it if one of the local BPs got it (so far the only place I know in Canberra that has Ultimate is in Kingston, a bit out of my way!) One of my local BPs has the new look signage etc, but not the new look fuel yet

Anto.
