I, nor anyone, can tell you what curve is correct for a particular engine. Your engine has to tell YOU what feels good. What I can tell you is that with increasing volumetric efficiency the engine needs less overall advance. As you can see from the tuning guide on my page (www.tdcperformance.ca) a bog stock engine will tolerate 34 degrees max and a high compression race engine needs only 28 degrees. In between these extremes, well, you need to decide how efficient your engine is and whether your environmental conditions and fuel need more or less max advance.

Then

1) Decide on your max advance. I'd suggest either 28 or 30 degrees from what I was told when I wanted to sort a good starting point for mine!

2) looking at the curve family from the graph for that max advance, I'd pick out the curve you wanted. Or, choose the bottom curve in the family, then do as Marcel says. If it feels good, no pinging, try the next one up, and so on.
