Doc,

I fitted mine on tonight - straight on, no problems. They look the business too!

Haven't driven the car yet, will let you know how it goes.

BTW, you asked what air filter I'm running - I'm just using the Lynx Ramflo one that came with the kit.

Now I've got to organise to get around to the suppliers for my redline manifold and Maniflow LCB. Even though it's secret men's business, I might have to ask my wife to pick them up - curse Hardiman's and Karcraft for not opening Saturdays!

Many Thanks
Kevin.

Hey Kev,
Be aware that the large Ramflo 445S filter (for 45DCOE) which is generally not offset upwards, will foul on the firewall with the Redline manifold.
If that is what you have, you would need to find an offset one, or fill the holes somehow and move them, then rechrome or powder coat the backplate.

The smaller 440S filter IS offset (usually) and will fit. You may need to thump the nearside corner of the speedo cutout with a BFH to ensure there's some clearance, particularly if you have a rodchange box (which move about a lot).

I think mine is the 440S being a 40DCOE.

But certainly worth bearing in mind if I go for a 45mm later on.

I think I still have the info on the filter type so I'll check it out.

Thanks.

Just look at carb from the side- you can see if filter is above carb centre.

I run the 440S filter (which I think is the same as yours), on a 45. As the 440S is designed for a 38-40-42DCOE, I just enlarged the holes to 45. I also put a Finer Filter pad in it (NLA now)- they do breathe better.

If I ever fit a 445S (I do have one) I'll buy another and hack the plate up, then offset it and weld it into the first. :P

nah mate, they are basically very small ram tubes ;) they are designed to fit inside an air filter.

Makka, unless you got a Weber box, you won't fit socks on. About the only thing that fits using that manifold with a stock firewall is an offset Ramflo (yeah I know- U hate 'em) and these stubstacks go inside it.
Ramflos are good I reckon, IF you use a decent foam, and oil it with Finer Filter or UniFilter oil.
You would not believe the crap that comes out of mine when I wash it (in turps). 8)

Might be worth ringing UniFilter in Hornsby to see if they can make these pads...
I'm alright Jack- I got a spare Finer Filter one!

Maybe Lynx ones ARE using better foam these days, I notice on their website that they say you can oil them now.

If fitting these stubstacks of mine to Weber DCOEs it's a good idea to make a 40 or 45mm bore spacer tube to go inside against the aux venturi (where a trumpet normally goes). This way there's no step in the bore.

On a Dellorto, there's no need- the aux venturis are flush with the filter mounting face. 8)

Here's a pic of the stubstacks, finished, all ready to go in the jiffy bags...

I was told that socks and tubes would fit, if you slightly 'relieved' the speedo hole (for centre speedo models) and then the socks would poke in behind the speedo. It would be a pain if you wanted to plug your speedo in too if your into that sort of thing.

Yeah Anto, you can do that on a race car, on a road car though you'll fill the car with petrol fumes, also it's a possible fire hazard to your wiring etc if you get a backfire....

Yeah that's true. My car always smells of petrol fumes though, I got used to it :) When my carb backfires it sometimes smokes up inside the car, which I'm sure is very bad. Doesn't back fire often though which is good - the lynx filter says it's flame retardant I hope their right...
