Not sure, I was actually thinking about trying to fit a tailgate that had a slight curve to it, which would look stupid with the vertical rear pillars. That said I will see how I go with everything else. Spent the last few nights reading and re-reading the transport SA rules before I venture into filling out my permission to modify form.

Now I need to go off and find some braking solutions and tyre/rim sizes to bullshit the form throughout. The permission to modify form almost seems as if it relies on you having already done the modification  .

Well I have made a bit more progress, at least now it rolls around so it can be welded. I have put one side upright, and once all the rust repairs around that area are finished, I will do the other side. Back panel is all in and welded, the only bog on top is that little bit you can see, the rest is metal finished. The sides have a bit of bog because of the depression from the window that I couldnt be bothered filling with MIG as I went.

The next step is to find a van in a wreckers to cut up to replace the back foot or so of the RHS, then start thinking about how to get the steel flip front to hinge, but also be able to open the bonnet independantly. Also need to get some more crap out of the shed so I can actually fit the little sucker in.

Yup ass kiss something chronic, and supply another complete Van shell to the engineer for the initial test, as this never had the front panels on it so it couldnt be tested for torsional strength. Or get a moke rego paper that says morris ute and see how it goes ....... But I wouldnt be that dodgy

Reverse the bonnet hinges to the leading edge like a Jaguar?

Looking good so far.

A mate up this way who's a panel beater built a clubby GT for a client with the bonnet opening standard but with quick release hinges and the front guards/valance hinging forwards and held shut by zeus(or whatever they are) fasteners . This impressed the engineer as it was still safe , apparently if you use a steel bonnet and reverse the hinges you have to do some very serious reinforcing and use burstproof latches on it so it doesn't become a guilotine blade back through the windscreen if you have a head on . Also having the bonnet open in the standard way it was a breeze to check things when you wanted to rather than flipping the whole thing forward and reaching around . It still only took about 2 minutes to remove the bonnet and guards/valance though when it was required though .

I'm in Chermside which is north Brisvegas but nowhere is really that far, except maybe ipswitch/toowoomba

That's right , I'd driven past the other Ian's place and saw you guy's stripping a van in the garage and thought I'd check if you were cutting it down to a ute . Ben's getting all enthused to finish the conversion now that I've got what I wanted off it .
