If you are going to do extractors, go the whole hog and look into your collector pipe, main pipe and exhaust. If any of these are crap then extractors alone aren't going to make a huge difference.... If you are just going to whack any old extractors on (financially forced to do so) then just get Perry 3in1, they are great for small bore IMO and cheap!

Saying power= revs X torque is over simplifiying things. So is measuring peak hp to guage the effectiveness of a mod.

I have no idea why people cling to hp readings to 'measure' engines. Give me 0-100 and 70-120 elapsed times any day as they are real world measures. Readings between dynos mean nothing.

In the example above, sure peak HP might have been down, but might have been a smooth/higher torque curve throughout the range, giving a result of more usable power. Peak readings mean about as much as peak output readings on stereo spec sheets...

already have an exhaust system on, 2" piping to a sports muff. Not getting the 3-1 extractors now changed my order getting LCBs you guys make them sound alot better than the standard 3-1

depends a lot on the design/size of the header, but in general LCB is seen as more applicable to big bore, 3-1 small bore.

fitted extractors (LCB) onto my motor just 2 weeks ago. also put whole new exhaust & mufffler set up on. 2inch centre exit with 2 nice n shiny outlets. at the same time replaced the old 1.25 SU with a bigger 1.5 SU mounted on a water cooled manifold. Moter size is 1100. Drives like its got a ton more power and sounds fantastic. still working out problem with a bit of a flat-spot when i put foot down though... anyone know anything about this?

You could use a thinner oil in the dash pot of your SU

The oil provides the damping to the rise and fall of the bell and needle in the SU carb so a thicker oil means that your throttle will be slower to respond, thinner and you will get a quicker throttle response AFAIK

If you go too thin there can be problems because the carb 'flutters' (varies too much and too quickly)

You probably now need a different needle in that SU. Sorry no recommendations- I run either twins, or Dellorto..

A whole lot of terms get used interchangably in this area. Generally when people use the term manifold on it's own they're either talking about a seperate inlet manifold, or the factory set up with the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold cast in one piece. Cut them apart and you've got an inlet manifold, and a boat anchor. Throw the exhaust side away and what you replace it with is extractors, or headers ('merican). So yes, sounds like you have the 'cooper' 3 into 1. Sits between the head, and meets your exhaust system somewhere at the bottom of the firewall.

ugggh...how is it that we have the highest number of original minis and yet the lowest number of modern dodads for them? if you could take our minis and mix them with the UK's market...we'd all be in heaven...

anyway :) thanks for the advice...i'll give them a ring and see tomorrow
