What's with all the A series engines. What about a decent engine like that out of a Morris 1100S? :P

Totally agree :)....

I knew a guy who had one of these in a MkII Cooper S... He thought he had a Cooper S engine in his car until I pointed out the engine numbers dont compute :)..

But either way it still went very well...

aint voted.

bout 10 years ago spent 1k on a special, true cost at the time was 4-1/5k, on condition i give it back when it dies, still running, company i got it from dont exist anymore!

1275 160thou over size, nitrided crank, ported, enlarged oil feed, balanced to 10k!, never used it 13"wheels with 3.44 diff, scary, it's in a Moke, tomorrow is roofless.

this was dyno 1-12/yrs after build 140hp 180 lbft, this car has pegged the speedo in third

I am happy, but after 180k km's it is starting to get tired, it still gets down and boogies when you stick ya boot in it, BTW it is only fed by 2 1-1/2 SU's, small trick here, produce torque by fuel starvation, yes it does work, trust me.

Now I am really confused I did want to go the stralet route but I am now looking at the A+ route. How much power would I be looking at if I bought a A+ block and through about $8000 on the mechanics of it. (about the cost of a installation of a starlet motor with subframe).

Also what is the biggest A series motor you can have and how much would this set me back :?:

Also how much would it cost to supercharge it :?:

the biggest an A series can get is 1480cc's ??? if im correct, yes...will set you back quite a few dollars,

supercharger kit....depend who you talk too,

look at the SC12 supercharger link in MINI MODS cost of complete kit would be MAX $1400

EDIT; if i had 8g id definatley got the starlet route, less trouble's, 5 speeed!!!!, plus BOOST!
unless u are a diehard A series nut like most of us on here!!!

blake

MiniGTI,
A+ block is really no better for big HP than a normal 1275 (Morris 1100S, LS1275).
And these old A series blocks are better for doing big bores, most A+ have thin sleeves factory fitted to disguise casting defects.

hmmmm what to get....well i got a lot for my $7000 back in 2003
i got my engine witch is a metro block...bored out to 1293.
full engine ballance,deck hight,etc
all new crap were it was needed was put in.
ported head and modified cam 1312 copy
by brian at link..custom brownrig extractors...2 inch exhurst..rc40 mufler
comp oil pick up,,,fully rebuilt gearbox..3.4 diff
oil coller, adjustable double row timming chain, comp clutch ,
lightened and machined flywheel,45dcoe carbie ,with mid lenghth manifold,
custom alloy radiator 4 core, regraphed dizzy...and some other stuff i dont understand as well....im happy with my engine...although i would like it not to leak oil from the front gearbox to block seal..if i had another $5000 to spend i would get a suppercharger fitted for sure witch is on next years agenger if not then the year after.
as ive fitted every other comp mini part to the car allready...apart from upgrading things theres not much i havent done allready...but would diffently keep it all a series

nah go a conversion :D

You can spend 7 grand easy (back in 2003) as minifreak has said, and still have oil leaks, 4 speed box and about 70hp@wheels. Then spend another 5 grand on supercharger for 100hp@wheels, and worrie when the gearbox is going to brake.

If you spent 7 grand on a 4efte conversion you would have no oil leaks ever, 5 speed box and about 150hp@wheels easy for 100 000's kms no hassles.

Bang for buck is an easy choice in this one. :D
