And how is the boost controlled from 4psi at low revs to 7psi at high revs??

The wastegate actuator operates at 4psi, so that takes care of the boost at low revs. There is an electronic control unit which at higher revs modulates a solenoid valve to bleed some of the pressure from the line feeding the wastegate actuator. At 6000rpm the line to the wastgate actuator has 3psi bled off to atmosphere, so the actuator itself still sees 4psi but the boost in the plenum chamber is now 7psi.

I'm interested in a project like this. I wouldn't do it to my cooper S motor but to another 1275 or my 1100S motor. What kind of head modifications are required (I read that with any decent amount of boost about 7psi would required the head to be machined for lower compression) and what would this cost, not including the cost of the engine and gearbox itself. Would it be easeri (and cheaper) to import a metro turbo engine and go from there or do it all yourself?
