That's cool, i'll grab some more pics later on in the week. At $800 i would take them, that's cheap. Mine are 9yo and they show no signs of wear 8)

Regarding Astra seats, no idea..measure them. I don't think i've seen them in a mini. You may want to look into the legality of removing the headrests if your doing a GTi conversion as for engineering i think you need headrests. Height shouldn't be a problem in a mini, there is quite a lot of room there...

But these are not just seats. These, my friend, are Recaro seats. Arguably the best seats in the business. Some Recaro's sell for $1200+ Each

I need more money...

Apparently these Recaro SE seats sold for about $850-1200 when new depending on the model. They are no longer sold in Australia despite being a current model over in the States. Idealseat (authorised Recaro dealer for Australia) say that it is impossible to get spare parts for this particular model of seat. They have a backlog of orders from people with Recaro SE seats looking for spare parts. This worries me.

Also, they said that they can make me some rails to suit the mini for about $120 each. :? I'd still like to see how Mini Mad did his so i can see how straightforward it is.

I phoned the guy who's selling the seats this arvo and told him i'll probably take them off his hands on the weekend. I'm still not 100% sure though.

This pic was taken in my bedroom. :) I got them for $750 with rails to suit an Astina (they should be able to be adapted). 8)

Mini Mad... how are those pics of your seat rails coming along? I'm still interested in seeing them.

If you retrimmed those seats in black vinyl they'd have a more period look (assuming that's what one might want!), i.e. Cobra Classic buckets.........which I wish I hadn't bought 'cos the ones with the headrest suck balls for long-distance comfort!

I was thinking about retrimming them with red vinyl backing and houndstooth front like the rear seats... would look so wierd that it's tempting. :P

Well I'm almost there... am sitting inside waiting for the paint to dry on the seat rails i've made.

The seats I bought were taken out of a Mazda Astina and thus came with rails to suit that model. With my trusty angle grinder and a LOT of care and patience I removed the Astina mounting tabs because they were totally in the wrong positions. I left one of them on because it doesn''t get in the way of anything in the mini and i was getting sick of angle grinding.

Anyhow... the pics speak for themselves. If you want to fit a pair of Recaro seats in your Morris Mini then you need to make a pair of these mounting brackets. Don't ask me to do it for you because I'm TOTALLY OVER IT. Getting the position of the seats correct and lining up bolt holes is the most frustrating thing in the world. :x

Looking good..sorry i didn't get pics..my sister took off with the camera and my phone camera doesn't take too good pics of the mounts without light.

Did you use a reinforcing plate underneath the car for the bolts at the rear? To stop them pulling through the floor in an accident.

No not yet... but when i saw how thin the metal is i thought i should design something like that or the bolts will pull through really easily.

I've got a pile of uni work to do at the moment so it's gonna stay like that until the semester is over... still safer than standard seats so I'm justifying it that way. ;)

Just a question on the reinforcing for the floor... what did you (Mini Mad) use? Was it just a steel plate with a hole in it that kinda acted like a big washer? Because that was what i was thinking of making.

Yes..it's about an inch square plate that has a thread in it where a bolt screws through.

Oh ok... so instead of using a nut you've tapped a thread in a piece of steel plate and the bolt screws into that? It'd have to be a decent thickness if that's the case.
