okay since the rise in petrol prices (i heard on the radio its going upto $1.30 Litre, not sure if true), Av gas is starting to seem cheapest way to go for the best performance (only $1.10-$1.50 from the airport), but one thing is you'd have to change the whole head including valves and springs etc.. but i was wondering would it be worth the conversion on a mini? and has anyone done this before? is it possible? but the most likey story will be the price of av gas will increase aswel, so this is just a question. thanks for your help. :)

Huh? Convert? You don't need to change anything to run Avgas. (although you can up the compression ratio to make the most out of it.)
Avgas is nothing special, it is just petrol with a higher octane rating and it has lead.

Avgas is usually dearer than normal petrol, I was paying $1.50 a litre for Avgas 5 years ago! (at a racetrack)

you don`t have to change diddly squat mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Av-Gas is simply dam good clean high octane petrol,,,pour it in & away you go, no changes needed.,,but it is also illegal to run it on the road.

You might be thinking of methanol?????

2 different fuels all to gether mate, don`t go sticking methanol into your engine,,,& definatley don`t smell it or splash it into your eyes or drink it or anything like that,,,very very bad stuff...good for race cars with compression ratios way over 13:1 tho :-) like speedway cars or drag cars etc, not for road use.

& besides,,,if petrol keeps going up in price,,,well,,,av-gas is just petrol,,,so one would assume that av-gas would go up in price too, right???

of course it will,,,it`s just petrol ..................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

IN NSW at least I believe the fine is now $5,000 for using Avgas on the road.
Yeah, I know- they've gotta catch you first..
Not worth the risk, IMO.

As said it's bloody dear stuff. And at racetracks here now they won't sell it unless you present your log book...

/quote]

A thousand years ago I used to go for a ride in a well tuned 997 Cooper with my apprentice mate to pick up his drum of Methanol....

mixed 4 : 1 with "Super"(in the late 60s) as a Fuel Improver....can this still be done?

The SMELL!!

This stuff is awesome to sniff.

The smell of burnt avgas is enough to get any revhead weak at the knees!
Classic racecars use it a lot.
