So, After months of avoiding it, i find out that the new Turbo is VERY, VERY close to the old one in terms of bolt patterns and mount points !
A few tweaks and it went on without a hitch....

New turbo is an IHI RHF-5 - Ball Bearing unit.....

Still plan to build a new exhaust manifold, but i just couldnt wait.......

The Old is on the right....

Gotta keep in mind guys, this is basically a "Street-rebuild" 998 ....

nothing real scary about it other than the RE-13 Variant cam .... (Its GR secret grind - but similar to the RE-13)

its currently running about 73@wheels - so another 20 isnt going to be too hard.......

I could be mistaken, but isn't the one on the right just a little bit smaller?
Still a streeter? More like a sleeper - that huffer should generate some boost once you get the revs up. Looks like fun

The Donor was a GTX Famila ......
They made about 166BHP so its certainly good for about 130@wheels ....

Now, to get the rest of the systems up to scratch and start making some serious Mumbo !

You'll need to raise your suspension to fit the big bore exhaust

Sorry to burst some people's bubble... but twin turbos on a 5 port head... technically cant happen. (even if you COULD fit it)

Ive just been told that it may NOT be off a GTX.. but rather an Early WRX STI ! (in which case the A/r maybe right off . . . .)

the exhaust housing is similar in size to my existing one, but the turbine is more "open" (hopefully the lighter ball bearing cartridge will offset the "looser" turbine wheel.....)

Oh well, its all fun isnt it ?

gotta give it a go .....
