whats the best method of removing material from a alloy manifold (redline 3005). i have been using 120 grit wet and dry but it is very slow. i have a die grinder but i'm not to sure it's the best way to go. i am removin material because of extremely lumpy inside. not polishing

Get a carbide burr. Not a straight one, you want it curved so it doesn't dig in.
A bit of RP7 or WD40 inside helps stop it clogging.
I finish it off with 120 grit cloth strip in a slotted 1/4" rod. SLOW it down for this..

Those 3005 manifolds really need some metal out to perform well with a 45. You need volume in there. Mine took 9 hours altogether with a carbide burr at 24,000 rpm.. crap I took some metal out.. 8)

Can't see the pics, but I use an `oval' and a `tree with pointed end'.

If your grinder has a 1/4" collet, get that size, they stand more abuse.

I match ported it to a `big port' gasket which matches the head ports.
37mm I think.
You probably won't go that big, unless it's a race head....

If it's for a 45 carb, it needs a lot taken out of the top flange, most are only about 42mm diameter stock.

I don't get cha... if it's 37mm on the gasket and the flange is 42mm in diameter stock... then why do you need to mod it?? :?

If you don't mod it bigger than the carb (ie 45mm+) there's a step there as the mixture goes in.
Into the head, where it's only about 33mm? dia normally, manifold dia is a little less anyway. Gas speed is higher there than at the carb mounting face.
Anyhow, on these manifolds you don't want a step DOWN where it goes in. Step UP is OK.

well i have the top half of it out the 45mm now. haven't start at the other end yet because i haven't had time to pull the head off. but i have started to polish the outside of the manifold for extra bling. my mum is doin a good job of it to cause my arm hurts to much. hahaha

I'd spend some time on enlarging and smoothing the bit in between, a good indication of how you're going is how much daylight you can see when you look thru it..
As I said before, you want some volume in there.

If using stones on alloy, put a bit of wax on them. Beeswax is good, even candlewax helps stop it digging in and loading up..

Sorry, no I don't, and it's on the car now.
Here's a pic of my other manifold, (GR one) but the Redline 3005 can only dream of being this open inside..
