Standard answer is that we would need to know more about your engine, head, carbie and the modifications done to be better able to answer, but a lot of people go the Maniflow medium bore LCB and RC40 route.

Depending on where you are in Sydney, there are few people you could talk to. To some extent, which mini specialist we recommend is dependant on where you are. Or if you just want to do it yourself, post some engine specs etc

As above - the LCB(a quality one) and a double RC-40 system(centre and rear mufflers). I heard from numerous people that the twin muffler RC-40 gives you a little bit more than the single rear muffler alone. I had one but just got sick of scraping the middle muffler on speed bumps.

I had a Maniflow LCB and a lukey centre exit straight through with the upturned tip. Good power and sounds very throaty and deep. Cabin noise is a bit more but I lived with that.

I have a set of 3 in 1 extractors (see pic below) and thinking of fitting a twin muffler RC-40 when I get the new head fitted.. Will the RC-40 work ok with these extractors??

Thanks for the advice and in answer to some of your questions. The motor is standard 998cc, overboard to 1032cc. Has a single carby and hasnt been modified other then that. I live in about 40 mins outside of Newcastle NSW near Maitland.

Go the Maniflow 1.75in system with either the dual muffler and side exit or the Lukey straight through - will do the 998/1032cc justice.

Good luck

The three into ones in that pic will bolt up to an RC40 with a bit of juggling and swearing provided you have the slip pipe that usually comes with the extractors. May still need to drop it off to and exhaust shop to weld the joint, depends how you go.

An RC40 would be the go, a single box would sound nice without being too loud on a 998. The twin box is at least as good if not better as far as performance is concerned, but the noise is a bit muffled (as you may expect!). A Maniflow LCB system would be nice, although cheaper three into ones probably give just as much bang for buck. Maniflow may be slight overkill on a 998.

Anton, the motor I have in the LS is now a 1030cc, 282 cam, 1.75 SU and soon to have a better head fitted so maybe a LCB system is the way to go along with the RC-40??

Smokie,
With a 282 cam I'd run either a Maniflow LCB, or Graham Russell's Supapipes.

Maniflows were cheap Antony when I bought them - was Colin Hirsts throw out sale...lol

Price-wise may be overkill but my 998 hasnt looked back. Mind you the 3 to 1 is a helluva lot easier to remove(especially the bloody Y piece for the Maniflow set - what a PITA!!!!!!!)

How much do you think an exhaust like that + fitting would cost?
What could i expect from its performance? How loud would it be?

cheers again

If you search for posts by Lillee, he did one where he documented the build of his new 1330 engine. The part where he has it on the engine dyno and trialling different exhausts etc has a pic from memory.
If you can't find it, PM him, he may just email the photo to you or re-post it.

Fitting is you and a mate(it isnt that difficult)

Cost for the Maniflows is around $275-$350 depending on who you see -

RC-40 mufflers - no idea(I think $175 comes to mind - could be wrong)

The Lukey - $120

These are ballpark(when I bought them 2-3 years ago) so check with your shop of choice. Noise is within tolerances(the RC-40 is soft but gives that lovely mini purrrr)and performance is pretty good - you do notice the difference in off the mark and driving over a long distance - just seems to be more responsive all over - no ferrari here but just good fun driving.
