".....but the smooth running of SU's for lower revs..."

A properly set up Weber will run just as well as an SU at low revs.... and provide well in excess of 30mpg from a 1275 when treated gently...

That's the whole point of using a more sophisticated carb.... it provides for more adjustability for different conditions - the down side is that, for it to work properly, you have to get all the adjustments right. Luckily there were olds and bolds about who knew exactly how.

I can't remember the name but there are no doubts others who can remember to old shop just down the hill from Hornsby railway station that was lined with old laurel leaf wreaths...

Cheers, Ian

If it's the place I'm thinking of, when I worked for Adams Automotive we used to dyno our Formula Vee engines there..
The name escapes me at the moment, but it'll come...

I have never been there, but it has been mentioned in the motor racing history forums. John Schroder was the man.

Yep, that was the man. 8)

I worked on quite a few `40HP' Formula Vees at Adams Automotive, the Bardahl Vee was one of them.
One weekend I borrowed one (with permission) and ran it up Amaroo hillclimb. I got 3rd FTD, 26.4secs.
CB got 2nd in the Lynx Peugeot, 24.? secs.
A Bowin Holden (179) open wheeler got FTD, can't recall the driver.
