Were the lukey's treated before wrapping?? Even factory treated if you didnt ??

Put them on ordinary exhaust manifolds and see what happens.
They hold in moisture (against the pipes) and that causes rust. In our climates the condensation and moisture stays in there... There is a silicone spray (or something like that) that is used to put on the manifold, etc before wrapping, dont know anyone who has used that... but everyone (except you) that I know that had exhaust wrap took it off and basically peeled their manifold apart... rusty, rusty.Pete.

I had a turbo car and wrapped the dump pipe in the exhaust wrap and had no issues at all with rust. I also painted them with exhaust paint first before wrapping which might have helped. The intercooler pipes were ceramic coated and they were noticably cooler to touch, plus they looked very bling bling

Yep, so it MUST be prepared somehow before wrapping.
Maybe the silicone stuff, maybe exhaust paint... but I tell ya, on plain pipes it kills em!!!

I would ceramic coat and just leave it at that... too risky to ruin your pipes I way

Pete

Rather than the rust, more importantly they expand and warp under the wraps. esp in racing conditions, This is what I heard...

This is a well covered topic. You could say it's been wrapped up. I know I might take some heat on this but maybe your search skills have been wrapped up and are now rusty... 8)

Thanks for taking the time to search, whenever I search for a subject that has probably been covered I come up with thousands of irrelevant hits so half the time I don't bother and just ask the question. I will have a look at these. Cheers.

I can show you a pic of my extractors on my Rover, that cracked on all 3 branches after less than 18 months that were wrapped. Mind you I didn't use the flexible joint they came with but you can see that the metal appears to be more brittle and thinner than when new. I wouldn't do it again, even though it is cheaper than the ceramic coating. My 2c.

I had the extractor on my e-type ceramic coated - lasted six months and it cracked. Within a year chunks fell off.

So I got a new set - same deal. I would would never buy ceramic coated unless it was for show.

As for wrapping - only useful if you keep your car warm - ie drive it alot.
