we have a 2002 toyota echo sportivo and it runs like crap through a fan i dont know what all u guys are talkin about!!! they go well in the low revs too which is good these days with the traffic and all, u may have a problem with the height of the engine though, they do come up a long way, you would need a bonnet bulge at the very least

we have a '99 echo 1.5 vvti. it goes okay, but its a pretty big engine. they dont put out a lot of power but id say they are quite reliable. if you could fit one of these why not try fit the VTEC, i dont think they are that different in size. (the 1.5 that is).

or go the 1.3 k3-VE from a Sirion GTVI. they go pretty well and are a bit smaller. or import a 1.3 K3-VET (turbo). The UK also has awd versions of the sirion.. theres lots of variations to try :)

I wouldnt touch an echo. If you want something small and potent, with a bit of a difference id prob try the Daihatsu stable as suggested above.

If not the sirion any of the charade motors with a turbo on the side go quite nicely!

Suzuki converted Mini reported to be at Summernats....

Because they were more plentiful I went the 4EFTE but if I could have laid my hands on the Sirion GTVi engine I probably would have gone that. Nice motor.

Some Specs:

Sirion GTVi:
Kerb Weight: 820Kg's
HP: 102 HP EEC @ 7,000 rpm; 120 Nm @ 4,400 rpm
0-100 9.6sec

Toyota Echo and Echo Sportivo:
Kerb Weight: 932kg's
HP: 108 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm; 143 Nm @ 4,200 rpm
0-100 10sec

Sirion GTVi's aren't too bad to drive, quite fun, probably comparable to a sportivo? never driven one, but definately better than standard echo. Sportivo only gets kit, stiffer suspension and grippier tires?

Toyota echo isn't much special to me, i don't think i'd bother replacing an A-Series for either one.. Those power figures are quite easily acheived from a mild and reliable A-series...

reason to go a 4efte over them engines is simple, you can get twice as much power (200hp) out of it with out changing a thing on the engine, just need a bleed valve.

Oh and the gearboxs are un breakable, mate has 348.1hp@wheels going through standard box
