Can a A+ tensioner be added to the A series duplex timing set up or is other parts required?

Yes it can, but you also need an A+ front plate and its timing cover.
It's made for a simplex chain but will work with duplex.
But GOOD duplex take a long time to stretch, I've never felt the need...

My A+ had the tensioner fall in half! It is a plastic piece on a spring steel back. I was lucky it din't drup down into the crank sprocket. When I took the cover off to replace the chain (because of the bad rattle) the tensioner just fell out in two bits.

Not worth the risk IMO.
