I changed the thermo switch to a 2 terminal tridon open circuit switch and it worked.

Damn so I was right after all :o

How about a pic (or pics) of the whole setup (like how you mounted the fan under the wing and how you shrouded it?

Sorry if this is further back in the thread, but where did you get the thermo housing with the hole for the sender?

I got it from repco, but you can get them from anyone who stocks "kilkenny" castings

I used a 9 inch repco thermo fan which fit so perfectly I couldn't believe it. I used a tridon termoswitch and a kilkenny thermostat housing (with a provision for a termoswitch. Thread is M16x1.5), the biggest problem I had though was finding a switch that would fit between the thermostat housing and the rocker cover.

Mounting the radiator took a while of fiddling around but it was rather simple in reality. I went to bunnings and got 3 small galvanized L shape brackets and bent them into a shape that would allow me to use the original bold holes on the radiator and still keep it level and sturdy. I used 2 brackets on the firewall side of the radiator and 1 bracket on the grill side. Its as sturdy as anything 

I don't know why this thermostat housing had the switch provision on the left hand side as opposed to the right, it seems silly to me as there’s heaps of room on the right side and bugger all o the left.

But anyway that’s the only way they made them so that’s what I had to deal with. The switch I used was an open circuit 2 terminal switch. If I had been able to find a single terminal open circuit switch I would have used that because they are generally smaller (but I could find one with correct temperature range). The one I used on the previous page was a closed circuit switch (hence why I had so much trouble getting it to work as the wiring diagram I had was for an open circuit switch). But it’s all good now

Now the 2 terminal switch I had was a little to big so I had to “make” it fit, to do this I had to bend the terminals sideways in opposite directions and grind a little bit of the rocker cover away. Now its all good.

The whole system works great, completely automatic and I recon better than the mechanical fan, It gives better airflow onto the radiator when driving as the shroud isn’t in the way and when the thermo fan kicks in at the lights it sucks a large amount of through the radiator.

I love it

Here are some photos of my setup

Did you cut all the bars on the grille behind the radiator to make the fan fit (or were they gone to begin with)? Would it have fit w/o cutting the bars?

the fan I used would probably just fit with out cutting the grille away, I cut it away mine tho, it wasn't like that when i got the car. it also depends on how deep the fan is you are going to use. there are many different brands shapes and sizes, some wil fit inside the grille and some won't. if in doubt...cut it out. it doesn't really serve a purpose anyway

Its there to stop larger debris and rubbish from damaging the radiator. Say you drive over a branch, it'd be sucked into the wheel guard and thrown onto the radiator by the wheel - so its better to keep the bars if possible.
