have tried searching and shifting through i dont know how many threads but couldnt find an answer.
at the moment i have a remote box that is in need of replacement/rebuilding, found someone selling a rebuilt gearbox, but it has a different changer on it(rod change?)
can i just change the rear diff housing and everything will be ok?
pic is of the gbox that person is selling.

i could be wrong but it looks like its missing the pot joints?
i would change the whole box staying with the remote or rebuild your current box.

you'll have to swap driveshafts if you change to rod change, which isnt that hard but yea.

yeah i know that, of no real concern atm.
i want to stay remote, thats what i want to know if i can change the rear housing over to the one off the remote if that is possible.
cost of getting box rebuilt would be around 1500 from my research, as opposed to the rod change box which is half that price.

no rod change is a bit less but definately not half the price.
we've rebuilt both types and they both cost about $500ish in parts

No, rod change box won`t be able to swap diff hsg over the remote type

swap whole box , shifter & axles of just fix the one you have

no real difference in re-build cost between the 2 types, both have the same sh!t, just in a different shovel

:-)

You can take all the rodchange box bearings shafts & gears except reverse, and they will fit your 4 synchro remote box.
Selector forks etc are different in each box, but gearsets are identical parts.
I'd stay with the remote box, they locate the engine far better than a rodchange one.

Parts and labour to fix either type should be the same. If not, ask WHY.

remote box has a more direct shift, more solidly built and has the added advantage of acting as an engine steady,
but it feels more agricultural and transmitts a lot of vibration, plus a lot of remote boxes didnt come with synchro on first gear.

rod change boxes feel a lot more modern, dont vibrate, easier to disassemble, make engine removal easier, the inner pot joints dont need maintenance like the uni joints on remote boxes and reverse has a lockout so you dont accidentally engage it. But they can feel a bit vague as if you dont know exactly where the gear is, this is made worse by wear.

if i were you i would keep the remote box and freshen it up.
