using the formula for working out the capacity of engines using hairdryers your engine is rated at 1870cc far from being a small bore

Jon

According to the RTA calculations... its what the engine number says  so its small :)

if i put a 1100 crank and pistons in it, it's already been bored 60thou will i be able to still get a compresion ratio of 8:1 cause i would like to supercharge it as well.

with the 1275 head if i can get one at reasonable price will i be able to bolt it streight on or will i have to drill another head bolt hole and modify it.

Standard C/R for the 1098 (with the 12G202 head) was 8.5:1.
A little chamber work will easily get it down to 8.0.

Any 1275 head will bolt on, you just need to use the 9 studs you have now.
All 1275s here (except Cooper S) only had 9 studs.
BUT...
Unless you have a stock lift cam and/or worn exhaust valve seats, the exhaust valves may hit the top of the block.

With high lift cams it's often necessary to notch the block for clearance. See kazjim's thread for pics.
Also, serious chamber mods are needed to get the C/R down to 8.0, as 1275 heads have smaller chambers.
It is not always a simple bolt-on mod.

so if im going supercharge it im better off putting a 12g202 head on it and doing some chamber work cause i really like the idea of putting a supercharger on it one of supercharged850s mates kits sounds good.

But according to the RTA a P plater cant drive it because of the hairdryer :D and they to use the same formula for working out engine capacity for modified vehicles :D but who cares it's all good clean fun

I'd run with an RE13T, same as kazjim has now in the `998 stroker'..
Boostedmini is running one in his 1293 turbo now, as well. Good cam for forced induction.

Bloody Fantastic is how I would describe it Kev !

I've closed it up a little to 0.016" and that has quietened it a little, and only added a little camminess down low... it soulds a little like my old 12A Bridgeport now ... (Rump, rump, rump...)

Pulls from a flat-footed 2000RPM all the way to about 7000.. I dont want to take it any more than that.. even though it feels like it still has some in it !

Head, I'm running the 12G1316 (Same as a 940) , and although it was a lot of work initially, i think it is the better way to go.. heaps better ports (stock.. although mine are a little modified.. hey Kev ?) as well as a more boost-friendly compression ratio (Running 8:1 now with a de-compression plate..)

Good luck
J

what type of pistons do you think i should put in it i found these
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mini-PISTONS-AND-RING-set-of-4-suit-1100-040-NEW_W0QQitemZ200000527827QQihZ010QQcategoryZ32072QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

i've got a duplex double row timing chain and doubler valve springs and lightened cam followers for the 998 will i still be able to use these.

Those Hypatec pistons are the same as kazjim is running (except his are +.060").
Benjamin is going to use them in his turbo motor, too.

Yes to the other question.

Either is OK but I'd go an LCB on a 1098.
