Hi Everyone,

I have heard that you can get hold of an electronic distributor. I am just wondering if anyone knows where abouts I could look for one of these, and what sort of cost are we looking at for such a beast :? ?

Cheers Monster Mini

I use the Aldon Red unit from www.minimania.com - cost was about $350US which I think gave you the coil + cap.

The retro-fit sounds a lot cheaper if you've got time to play with it.

Cheers,

Jacks.

I am running a pertronix kit in Brom. I enjoy not having to worry about the timing and noticed more grunt from the small bore 998 particularly during acceleration.

I use a MK1 Cooper S dissy (no vac advance), had the mechanical advance curve modified to suite the rest of the motor, and fitted a Lumenition kit.

Years ago a common mod on these was to fit them with 997 Cooper dissy springs.

I've always found Lumenition to be very good and also run it on my 4.6 Rover V8 (320hp).

What's a Lumenition kit? And what does it do for the timing/distributor thing?
Also is there a glossary for acronyms and terms on this site so I don't have to keep annoying you all with this stuff. :)

Pertronix, and Lumenition are the two most common kits these days for converting a Lucas dizzy to electronic ignition.
Both screw onto the dizzy baseplate after the points & condenser have been removed.
The spark is triggered either by a hall-effect sensor and magnetic trigger wheel (Pertronix), or optically (I think) in the Lumenition one.

They do not get out of adjustment, your timing stays set longer, and they give less problems in wet weather. I also found a wider power band and better economy.

Kits can be got from MiniSpares or MiniSport etc in UK, or locally if you want to pay more $$.

I got a few Pertronix ignitor kits sent from USA, works out cheaper. See http://www.vintageperformance.com/retro ... /lucas.htm
Note prices there are US$.

<edit> here are the same Pertronix units, priced at MiniSpares UK- compare to above and you will see what I mean.

And, here's the Lumenition kits too. Enjoy! 8)

If you still have a worn out Lucas with points, maybe this would be a better alternative to a rebuild, recurve and Pertronix/Luminition:
