If you really want quick shifts, especially in the 2nd to 3rd shift, build yourself either a reverse lockout plate or replace the reverse selector spring-loaded plunger on the front of the gearcox with a cable operated one.
When racing, it's very easy to muff a rushed 2nd to 3rd change by moving the gear lever just slightly too far to the right (into the reverse gate area) and miss the forward throw slot for 3rd.
A simple sliding or hinged gate can be fabricated pretty easily to fit at the base of the gearlever to prevent the lever moving too far across; but the best option is to replace the plunger and spring in the gearbox casing with a cable operated one connected to a knob or handle on the gearlever. That means that the reverse gate is always locked out unless the plunger is lifted by the cable, and the second - 3rd shift can be whipped through without thinking or any chance of baulking.
It's one of the best mods I've ever made to my 'S'

Installed it today but think I bought the wrong one. Only first & second gear work. I bought a rod change quick shift coz but is my gearbox remote? It has the pull to reverse feature so I assumed it was rod? Why????

look under the car, if there is two rods going to the gear selector, its rod change, otherwise if its a big metal casing attached to the motor its remote.

I don't like them on remote boxes (which are bloody short throw shifters already) but yesterday I drove a rodchange with one- and YES, I'm impressed.
If I had to have a rodchange I'd get one.

Well I don't really like em...I always think it too easy to beat the synchros.....Doc I've driven Robs Acacia 850 and whilst I thought the shift was generally positive the short short throws jus ain't my cuppa tea (but without going to VW Beetle extremes  )
