 Post subject: Removing Caliper Pistons

Hey,
Anyone got any clever ideas for removing piston calipers?
I soaked the whole lot in diesel all night, and removed all messy substances from around the seal, as well as the seal itself, and then put 120 psi of air behind them, but they won't move. The others would have shot across the room by now.
I an't connect them to a brake system, but if thats the only way I'll work out something.

on the side with the hole for the brake pipe, get a bolt with the same thread and screw it into the calliper, that will pop that side out, on the other side, and only if your not going to re use the pistons, i use a vice grip, and turn it and pull it till it comes out. :wink: just did it with my s discs yesterday

are you going to replace the pistons, sounds like you need to. If so grab some mutlti grips and try and turn the piston. Also have you got the other piston out or are both stuck. If one is out then blowing air in won't help unless you have block off the other side.

With it still assembled...
I take the outer (blind one) out first by clamping the piston of the inner one, and applying air pressure. If air doesn't work I'd go rig it to my hydro pump.... 8)
Then the inner one is easy, put a pin punch thru the hole and knock it out.

OR slowly thread it out using a spare wheel stud....

Same thread....

I hooked up an old master cylinder and pumped fluid through last time to get the off-side one out....

That's all I did as well, just hooked it back up to the brake (breake :lol: ) line and pumped them out. Clamp the inner one in until the outside one has popped out, and then push the inner out via the hole.
It's better if you do one side at a time. Then you don't have to worry about the fluid coming out of the other brake calliper.
