Ok... here's the last pics before i put this little project on the "successfully completed" pile and forget about it.

I'm pretty happy with the results considering the rails that i made cost me exactly $11.25 in materials when Recaro in Moorabbin quoted me $400 for a set that they would make up. I doubt their rails would be as good quality either since it's not their car and the "care factor" would be lower.

It was a tight squeeze getting the seats in there... There was a fine balance between having enough of a gap between the seats whilst at the same time clearing the door pockets. The winder knobs on the door sides were removed so as not to foul the rear storage pocket when the seat is slid back fully.

Did you consider swapping left/right seats so the knobs were behind the gearstick?
I'm just trying to work out my own seat setup ATM, and intend to make my own base too

^^ What he said.

Oh and when I was working out the exact position of the mount brackets I had the seats in and out a few times to check the positions. The aim was to have the seat base touch the door with an overlap of about 2-3mm (ie: just touching the door storage pocket to maximise handbrake access).

I went and welded the seat rails up, painted them and installed them. When i bolted the first seat on it touched the door really hard. It was like 10mm overlap. I was told, and assumed, that the seats were symmetrical... but suspecting they weren't I swapped the left with the right one tonight and found that my seat rails were actually correct and the seats are offset a little bit. Phew... thought i'd ****ed up. :o

Thanks :)

After working on the moke panels for this long,
I no longer assume that left hand parts are the same as right hand
(or that panels off the same year/model are identical) :x
