I recently bought a nugget gold clubman 1275 LS, unfortunately the exterior has been repainted in a dull brownish colour. luckily they didn't do the interior so that is still the correct metallic gold.

i'd like to know how i should go about getting it repainted in the correct colour. should i take it to a panel beater/painter and get them to find a matching mix or will i need to track down the original formula?

Well if you get the origional formulae then you will have the right paint. But with age the new paint will still look different to the old stuff on the inside, getting a painter to match the paint will give you the same colour all round, but may not be the origional colour... It wont be far off it though

I looked but couldn't find a paint number (although i wasn't certain what i was looking for) under the bonnet.

I found a list of a lot of car colours which had what appears to be the nugget gold metallic paint code, if you scroll down to 177 its "Nugget Gold Met" and its year is 1978 so it seems the right one.

All you have to do is go to a paint mixer (either at a spare parts joint like Pep's, Auto One, or a paint supplier) and tell them you want Leyland Nugget Gold. They have EVERYTHING in their database and can mix it on the spot.

The existing gold according to his post was only on the inside so it should not be too faded, hopefully I would ask the painter / panel beater what they reckon but I would reckon you would be OK going with the original colour

It'll never look 100% right without painting the interior again also.
Metallics are hard to get a perfect match for, and even if you do, it has to be
sprayed on just right to work.

Sorry to hijack your thread here but does any one know how to obtain the correct crinkle finish paint on an original Mk1 cooper s heater
