I'm guessing that scoop was design to shield the carbies if you put IDF downdraft carbies on and they stuck out the top of the bonnet. Although it mght have to be a bit taller :?:

Appartantly the carbs suffered a performance loss due to the turbulence so they need a scoop to shield them
