I have been looking around for an intercooler for my turbo (in '78 clubman) and came across a couple of pics of long/square intercooler which just happened to be from the (newer, R56) BMW Mini as shown in this pic : http://www.altaperformance.com/shared/images/dynos/r56/r56_fmic/r56altavsstock2.jpg I was hoping some one could advise what dimensions of this Bini intercooler (core & overall) and also what the inlet & outlet diameters are as I want to see if it would be suitable for my requirements. |

hey i have one that i scored from work, its a bit long i will need to get it shortened to make sure it fits where i want it but this is what it looks like. hole length is 770mm (bracket to bracket) hole height is 100mm (where core connects to plastic ends is the biggest) hole width is 120mm (on the end tank) core length is 540mm core height is 85mm core width is 65mm inlet and outlet diameter is 55mm or 2"

Looks like an interesting project xplosion. Are you planning on running a turbo with megajolt? Doesnt look like to much room behind that intercooler. |

By the time that core is cut down, the overall volume of that intercooler would be on the smallish side - and would probably be suitable for the occasional turbo on boost but would get heatsoaked pretty quick if you were on & off the turbo frequently. But in saying that, a water spray setup would help a lot to improve it's effectiveness to release the heat. |

yeah it will be interesting when its finnished but that will be very far away, its always about the money and time. i want to run it with the megajolt system, it sounds like a good setup and very adjustable as well. ill see how i go with the intercooler i only think it may need to be shortened a little, i would like to mount it under the number plate but its all about the room and the direction of the inlet and outlet at the moment. |
